Anchors Aweigh! For the second time in three years the U.S. Naval Academy upset Notre Dame, defeating the Fighting Irish 23-21 on Saturday.
The Midshipmen forced three turnovers and held the Irish to 60 yards rushing in a game that all but ended Notre Dame’s BCS bowl chances.
Navy (7-3) was led by Vince Murray with 158 yards on 14 carries and one touchdown. The Middies also got a strong performance from Ricky Dobbs, who rushed for 102 yards on 31 carries and scored Navy’s first touchdown of the game.
Jimmy Clausen led Notre Dame (6-3), completing 37-of-51 passes for 452 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Michael Floyd had a solid game for the Irish, catching 10 passes for 141 yards and one touchdown.
Floyd, playing his first game after breaking his collarbone in September, matched his career high.

Navy Midshipmen Celebrate Win Over Notre Dame
The last time an unranked Navy team beat a ranked Notre Dame team was 1936, when the Midshipmen won 3-0. Ranked Notre Dame teams had beat unranked Navy 41 straight times.
Critics of Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis will surely voice their displeasure in the coming week following the loss to a team many expected to beat.
The Irish have remaining games against No. 13 Pittsburgh next Saturday, Connecticut on November 21 and a resurgent Stanford team to close out the season on November 28.
