2009 SEC Football Power Poll – Week 9
Published by MoonDog on November 9, 2009
The Florida Gators remained atop the MoonDog Sports 2009 SEC Football Power Poll with their 27-3 victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores. Coupled with Alabama’s win over LSU, the Gators (9-0, 7-0) will fact the Crimson Tide on December 5 for the SEC Championship and a berth in the BCS national championship game.
Heisman Trophy frontrunner Tim Tebow was efficient in leading Florida to the win. He completed 15-of-20 passes for 208 yards and one touchdown while carrying the ball 16 times for 27 yards and another score.
Alabama (9-0, 6-0) is second in our SEC Football Power Poll behind their 24-15 victory over LSU on Saturday to claim the SEC West title. Alabama overcame a 15-10 LSU lead with two field goals, a touchdown and a two-point conversion in the fourth quarter to defeat the Tigers.
Heisman Trophy candidate Mark Ingram led the way for Alabama, rushing for 144 yards on 22 carries. Quarterback Greg McElroy had a solid game, completing 19-of-34 passes for 276 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
Despite their loss to Alabama, LSU (7-2, 4-2) remains third in our poll. The Tigers only losses this year have been to top-ranked Florida and No. 3 Alabama. There isn’t another two-loss team in the nation that can claim to be better than LSU.
Auburn (7-3, 3-3) remained fourth in our poll this week with their 63-31 win over non-conference foe Furman. The Tigers’ Chris Todd had a monster game, completing 17-of18 passes for 256 yards and four touchdowns.
The Tennessee Volunteers (5-4, 2-3) remained fifth in this week’s poll with their 56-28 win over Memphis. Quarterback Jonathan Crompton led the Vols offense by completing 21-of-27 passes for 331 yards and five touchdowns.
