FedEx CEO Fred Smith To Transform Memphis Tigers Football

According to local media reports, sources close to FedEx CEO Fred Smith have reportedly indicated he will infuse the Memphis Tigers football program with a sizable cash donation.
On the day following the announcement that head coach Tommy West had been fired, Smith’s intentions to provide the Tigers football program what it’s lacked for decades is exciting news for fans.
Smith’s son Cannon transferred to Memphis from the University of Miami (FL) and will be eligible to play next season. Smith will sit out this season per NCAA rules and will have three years of eligibility remaining.
According to Forbes Magazine, Smith’s net worth is estimated to be $1.3 billion. He owns 10% of the Washington Redskins along with the naming rights to FedEx Field, the team’s stadium.
His sponsorships include the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup, the FedEx Orange Bowl and the FedEx Forum.

Smith told the Commercial Appeal in September, “I think the Big East will have to expand at some point to at least nine football teams and, probably, eventually to 12.
If, in fact, the Big East wanted to expand and they wanted somebody in the Central time zone, there’s nobody who can compare (to the University of Memphis).”
According to sources, Smith’s agenda for the Tigers football program is clear: hire a talented coach, build top facilities, and bring in highly regarded prep prospects. Smith, they say, wants a complete transformation of the Memphis football program.
