The NFL will kick off this week with a Thursday night special between the Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers.

There will be several key games between division rivals that will help shape the 2009 NFL playoff picture. Will we have two undefeated teams by the time the Ravens meet the Browns on Monday night football? Find out with the NFL predictions for Week 10.

Five Can’t Miss NFL Games

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
The Cincinnati Bengals helped their cause for an AFC North title by knocking off the Baltimore Ravens last week. They will need another big day from running back Cedric Benson if they are going to sweep the Steelers this season.

Though the Pittsburgh Steelers will be playing on short rest, head coach Mike Tomlin will have his team ready to go for this crucial division game. In the end, the Steelers will come away with a win thanks to a key defensive play.

Prediction – Pittsburgh 24 Cincinnati 17

Atlanta Falcons vs. Carolina Panthers
The solution to the Atlanta Falcons woes was the Washington Redskins. Now they will need to face a team with a dominant running game. The key to their success will center on how well the front seven can contain running back DeAngelo Williams.

The Carolina Panthers came up a few plays short of giving the New Orleans Saints their first loss of the season. Good news for Panthers fans, Williams has found his stride and looks like the dominant back from 2008. If quarterback Jake Delhomme cuts down on the turnovers and manages the game, it will be enough to help give the home team the win.

Prediction – Carolina 31 Atlanta 21

Philadelphia Eagles vs. San Diego Chargers
The Philadelphia Eagles had a hard fought game with the Cowboys and will need to travel across the country to face a pass happy Chargers offense. The Eagles will try to force the Chargers to win with their running game as they throw everything, including the kitchen sink against Phillip Rivers.

The San Diego Chargers always find a way to hang around and remain in the hunt for the AFC playoff race. The Eagles will work on shutting down wide receiver Vincent Jackson, leaving an opportunity for tight end Antonio Gates to have a big game. The East coast team will return home with a loss by the time the game is over.

Prediction – San Diego 27 Philadelphia 21

Dallas Cowboys vs. Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers took a step back last week in the surprise loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They are in need of a win to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers will need to improve his performance and reduce the interceptions if they are going to win.

The Dallas Cowboys offense that was slowed down by the Eagles defense should rebound some this week against a suspect Packers defense. They need to find a way to get their running game involved if they want to secure a victory. In the end, Rodgers will make one mistake less than Tony Romo and give Green Bay the win.

Prediction – Green Bay 31 Dallas 24

New England Patriots vs. Indianapolis Colts

Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning

Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning

The New England Patriots have taken control of the AFC East division race and are now focusing on positioning themselves for a first round bye week. Quarterback Tom Brady has looked like his old self and will make use of wide receivers Randy Moss and Wes Welker to spread out the Colts defense.

In case you did not realize it, the Indianapolis Colts are 8-0 thanks to a comeback win against the Houston Texans. Quarterback Peyton Manning will be ready to dissect the Patriots defense. The only question will be if the Colts defense can slow down the Patriots offense. The team who makes the first mistake during this marquee game will come away with the loss.

Prediction– New England 28 Indianapolis 24

The Rest of the Schedule

Chicago Bears vs. San Francisco 49ers
Both the Chicago Bears and the San Francisco 49ers are coming off hard losses after promising starts to the season. With a playoff appearance in doubt, both teams are in desperate need of a win. The 49ers running game will be the difference as they earn a narrow win.

New Orleans Saints vs. St. Louis Rams
The New Orleans Saints continue to win and there is no reason to expect anything different when they face the St. Louis Rams. Do not expect Drew Brees to allow the team to look past the Rams. The Saints will continue marching along and come away with a double digit victory.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. New York Jets
The Jacksonville Jaguars are an awful 1-3 on the road and will be facing a New York Jets team fresh off a bye week. The Jaguars defense will be tested by the running game of the Jets, who will come away with a win and still remain a long shot for the NFL playoffs.

Detroit Lions vs. Minnesota Vikings
The Detroit Lions, who let a game get away from them last week, will be facing off against the NFC North division leader, Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings will be rested and may take a half before they get it in gear against the lowly Lions. When the game is done, the Vikings will have their eighth win of the season.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Miami Dolphins
The Josh Freeman era has begun for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as they earned their first win of the season last week, while the Miami Dolphins are looking for a way to salvage their season. The Dolphins won’t make as many mistakes as the Packers did and use their running game to give them a home victory.

Denver Broncos vs. Washington Redskins
The wheels have fallen off for the Washington Redskins who will be looking for a new head coach by the end of the season. The Denver Broncos, who will be playing on short rest, should have enough on defense to keep the Redskins in check and give them a road victory.

Buffalo Bills vs. Tennessee Titans
The Tennessee Titans are on a two game win streak while the Buffalo Bills lost their last game against the Texans. The Titans Chris Johnson will continue to run wild and be the deciding factor in the game, giving Tennessee their third win of the 2009 NFL season.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Oakland Raiders
Even though the Kansas City Chiefs lost a close game last week to the Jaguars, the addition of wide receiver Chris Chambers provided a spark to their passing game. The Oakland Raiders, who will be coming off a bye, will need quarterback JaMarcus Russell to come alive if they want a chance. The Chiefs will end up earning their second win by a small margin.

Seattle Seahawks vs. Arizona Cardinals
The Seattle Seahawks are looking to build upon the come from behind victory against the Lions and will need their defense to play their best game of the season. The Arizona Cardinals found success with the running game after opening it up with their passing attack. The Cardinals will move one step closer to clinching a second straight division title.

Baltimore Ravens vs. Cleveland Browns
The Baltimore Ravens will still be smarting from being dominated by the Bengals last week while the Cleveland Browns will probably be asking their fans to vote on what plays they want to use. The Ravens will be ready to make a statement and punish the Browns on Monday night football.

Year to Date 60 – 32

The Colts defense is ranked number 1 in points allowed. They may give up yards. But they only give up field goals and not touch downs. I think it is hard for you to say that the Colts defense can’t stand up against the Patriots. The Patriots in my opinion are not like they use to be. The hardest matchup for the Colts is rookie CB Lacey on Randy Moss. Bob Sanders is out so we will have to rely on bullett and bethea for over the top help. I think they will get the job done.

I pick the colts by 10.
    Final score = 31-21.
