2009 NFL Predictions Midseason Review
Published by JM Van Horn on November 18, 2009
The NFL season has reached the midway point and it is time to see how well our 2009 NFL Season Predictions have stacked up with how the season has played out.
AFC East
At the halfway point the New England Patriots are where many NFL experts, including the folks at MoonDog Sports, thought they would be. Quarterback Tom Brady has returned to form and the offense is one of the best in the NFL.
When it comes to a wildcard berth, it is Miami Dolphins will be able to do enough in the second half to capture one of the spots.
AFC North
While we were both dead on with the Pittsburgh Steelers being at the head of the class for the AFC North, neither of us had enough faith in the upstart Cincinnati Bengals who now own the division lead.
Our selection for the second wildcard berth, the Baltimore Ravens, looks to be in jeopardy as well even with a recent win over the hapless Cleveland Browns.
AFC South
For this division, MoonDog though the Tennessee Titans would build upon their success from last season while I felt the Indianapolis Colts would come through even with a new head coach.
The Titans will be on the outside looking in when the playoffs begin while the Colts have a commanding lead for another division title. Keep an eye on the Houston Texans who are making a bid for a wildcard berth.
AFC West
None of us expected the Denver Broncos to be the division leaders are the halfway point, especially after the dysfunctional off-season. While there is a little bit of concern in Denver after losing their last two, they should manage to hold on at least for a wildcard berth.
Our selections for the AFC West at the start of the season was the San Diego Chargers and we are sticking with them. They now sit even with the Broncos and have been playing inspired football lately.
NFC East
At the midway point, the Dallas Cowboys are trying to make liars out of us by owning the division lead by one game over our selection, the Philadelphia Eagles.
Even worse is the New York Giants whose recent four game losing streaks puts them on the wrong end of earning a wildcard berth.
NFC North
Neither of us put much faith in the Minnesota Vikings and Brett Favre. As a result, MoonDog’s selection of the Chicago Bears looks to be in danger of missing out of the playoffs.
The same could be said for my selection, the Green Bay Packers, who are barely clinging onto any kind of playoff hope.
NFC South
When it came to the NFC South, there was no question that the New Orleans Saints would earn a division title thanks to the offense led by Drew Brees.
MoonDog’s wildcard selection of the Atlanta Falcons still has some life in it while the Carolina Panthers are trying to make a late season push that appears to be too late.
NFC West
This was another division where there was a difference of opinion as to who would come out on top. While my selection for the Seattle Seahawks winning the NFC West appears to be a pipe dream, MoonDog had faith in the Arizona Cardinals, who appear headed for a second NFC West title.
The one thing that is apparent is the rest of the division is below average at best once you move past the Arizona Cardinals.
