NFL Week 11 Predictions & Five Must See Games
Published by JM Van Horn on November 18, 2009
As the 2009 NFL season moves past the midway point, the playoff picture is slowly coming into focus. The hopeful teams will be banking on key wins and trying to avoid those loses that could knock them out of the hunt. Here are the NFL predictions for Week 11 of the 2009 season, along with five can’t miss games.
Miami Dolphins at Carolina Panthers
The Miami Dolphins crept closer to a .500 record on the season last week but not without a price. Running back Ronnie Brown went down with an ankle injury and will miss out on this Thursday night game. The Fins will need to rely upon back Ricky Williams to shoulder more of the load and take some pressure off their inexperienced quarterback Chad Henne.
Running back DeAngelo Williams has led the Panthers during their recent surge. Quarterback Jake Delhomme has even gotten into the act and had his best game of the season last week. The Panthers will use their running game to set up the deep ball to wide receiver Steve Smith, something that the Dolphins have been susceptible to.
Prediction – Carolina 24 Miami 14
Atlanta Falcons at New York Giants
The loss last week for the Atlanta Falcons did put a hamper on their NFL playoff run, making this a must win game if they want to earn a wildcard berth. Quarterback Matt Ryan should find some success against a Giants secondary that has been banged up and unable to stop opposing offenses.
The New York Giants enjoyed a bye last week and are looking forward to putting an end to their four game losing streak. This will be the perfect time for the Giants to show their mettle and take advantage of their division rivals losing last week. They will return to the basics, running the ball and putting pressure on the quarterback to earn a win at home.
Prediction – New York 21 Atlanta 14
Indianapolis Colts at Baltimore Ravens
The Indianapolis Colts don’t need to be reminded they dodged a bullet last week when the Patriots couldn’t convert a late 4th and 2 attempt. Quarterback Peyton Manning will continue to make his push for another MVP award against a Ravens defense that has been showing its age as of late.
Baltimore continues to struggle on offense and the Ravens will face a Colts defense that gave up some big yards last week. The Ravens will need quarterback Joe Flacco to take advantage of the Colts secondary if they are going to win this game. While the game will be close during the first half, look for the Colts to pull away in the second half.
Prediction – Indianapolis 24 Baltimore 17
San Diego Chargers at Denver Broncos
The San Diego Chargers were given up for dead after the Denver Broncos manhandled them on their home turf. Since the loss, the Chargers have reeled off four wins and are tied for the division lead. The offense is back in the groove and LaDainian Tomlinson has been one of the contributing factors.
The Denver Broncos have fallen flat on their face, losing three games in a row and now face their division rival. A bigger problem for the Broncos is their roller coaster offense looks to be without their signal caller, Kyle Orton. Whether Orton is ready to go or not, the Chargers should have no problem winning this game.
Prediction - San Diego 28 Denver 10
New York Jets at New England Patriots
All of the promise the New York Jets had after the first month of the season has disappeared losing four of their last five games. While the offense has slowly come back around thanks to the return of wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery, the once stout defense has let them down. In their most recent loss, the Jets defense allowed the Jaguars to convert seven of their thirteen third downs while letting the offense gain 5.8 yards per play.
The New England Patriots let one slip away last week after the gutsy call. Don’t expect the same this week when they take on their division rival. This will be the perfect chance for Tom Brady and company to knock the Jets out and continue their march to the AFC East title. It has been over five years since the New England Patriots have lost two straight games during the NFL season.
Prediction – New England 31 New York 21
The Rest of the Week 11 NFL Schedule
New Orleans Saints at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The New Orleans Saints squeaked out a win against a lesser opponent last week and face another as the Saints look to go 10-0. Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ defense will have their hands full with the Saints potent offense. When it’s done, the Saints will come out on top with a road victory.
Buffalo Bills at Jacksonville Jaguars
The Buffalo Bills were blown out by the running game of the Titans last week and will need to bounce back against the Jacksonville Jaguars who appear to have found their stride. Maurice Jones-Drew will run wild through the porous Bills defense and help the Jaguars win the game.
San Francisco 49ers at Green Bay Packers
Though the San Francisco 49ers were able to knock off the Bears last week, their playoff chances look bleak at best thanks to a mostly inept offense. This week we saw the playoff ready Green Bay Packers shut down the Cowboys and look ready to take on anyone. The question is can they show up on a weekly basis? Even if they bring their B game, the Packers will have enough to knock off the 49ers at home.
Seattle Seahawks at Minnesota Vikings
The season is coming to a close for the Seattle Seahawks as they watch their playoff chances disappear. On the flip side, the Minnesota Vikings are doing what they have done all season – win games. Adrian Peterson will carry the team this week and help the Vikings earn a victory in Week 11 of the NFL season.
Washington Redskins at Dallas Cowboys
The Washington Redskins are going to try and ride the momentum from their victory over the Denver Broncos, while the Dallas Cowboys are still smarting from having their winning streak shut down. The Cowboys will be ready for their rival in this must win game. The Cowboys will earn a win by more than a touchdown.
Pittsburgh Steelers at Kansas City Chiefs
The Pittsburgh Steelers find themselves in a hole when it comes to winning the AFC North and will need to win every week to keep pace with the Bengals. Though the Kansas City Chiefs looked decent last week, it was against the Raiders. The Steelers will roll as they bring life back to their offense this week.
Cleveland Browns at Detroit Lions
What can be said about this game between the Detroit Lions, who can’t stop opposing offenses, and the Cleveland Browns who can’t muster an offense? The biggest thing that will come out of this game between these teams who have two wins between them will be who has the inside track to the # 1 selection in the 2010 NFL draft.
Arizona Cardinals at St. Louis Rams
The Arizona Cardinals are beginning to get into playoff form and this could be trouble for the teams in the NFC. Though the St. Louis Rams lost last week to the Saints, they showed their fans that they aren’t ready to quit. That will not matter much when Kurt Warner decides to show the Rams why they should have held onto him.
Cincinnati Bengals at Oakland Raiders
The Cincinnati Bengals are for real and have become one of the top teams in the AFC this year, while the Oakland Raiders are at the bottom of the list with too many problems to count. Despite that, this could be a trap game for the Bengals who will be suffering a letdown after the hard win last week. The Bengals will lose some steam traveling west but will have enough to beat the Raiders.
Philadelphia Eagles at Chicago Bears
Both the Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears suffered setbacks last week when it came to their NFL playoff chances. Even with the loss, the Eagles look ten times better than the Bears and should win this one easily.
Tennessee Titans at Houston Texans
Don’t look now but the Tennessee Titans are on a roll, thanks to Chris Johnson and Vince Young. The Houston Texans will need to bounce back from the hard loss to the Colts two weeks ago if they want to make the playoffs this year. This should be a high scoring affair, with both sides putting up over 30 points by the time it is done, with the edge going to the Texans.
Year to Date 71 – 35
