Keith Law Left Chris Carpenter Off His Cy Young Ballot – WTF?
Published by MoonDog on November 19, 2009
Keith Law, I’m talking to you. You sir, are an idiot. How in the hell could you have left St. Louis’ Chris Carpenter completely off your National League Cy Young ballot?
Based on the interview you had with ESPN’s Chris McKendry where you mindlessly attempted to justify your decision to leave Carpenter off your ballot, I’m convinced you had no business being allowed to cast a vote.
According to your logic, or lack thereof, you left Carpenter off your ballot because he didn’t pitch as many innings as Tim Lincecum.
Did you forget that Carpenter missed four starts due to injury?
Based on that thinking, apparently you believe if a player misses time due to an injury he’s no longer eligible to win a post season award.
I have nothing against Lincecum nor do I have a problem with him being named as the 2009 National League Cy Young winner. He’s an outstanding young pitcher and he had a fantastic season, one that was worthy of the Cy Young award.
My problem with Law is leaving Carpenter, an equally deserving candidate, completely off his ballot based on half-witted reasoning.
If the Baseball Writers of America, specifically Keith Law, don’t have the mental acumen to submit a ballot for a post season award that includes all worthy candidates, then it’s time the privilege of voting be revoked.
Here’s the video where Law explains his (cough) thinking why he left Chris Carpenter off his NL Cy Young ballot.

I think Keith Law won a contest out of a cereal box for the right to get a Cy Young vote. What a fucking moron.

You and I are on the same page buddy. Unfathomable to me how he could do something so stupid. They should throw his ass off the list of baseball writers that get a vote.

Hey guys,
There’s a very good reason why Law left Carpenter off the ballot. As many of you probably don’t know, Law worked for JP Ricciardi up in Toronto from 2002-2006 and he was instrumental in convincing JP to remove Carpenter from the Blue Jays 40-man roster. So of course Law didn’t vote for Carpenter, doing so would make his 2002 blunder look even worse.

or, it could be because Vasquez was a really freakin’ good pitcher. Bigger travesty is the guy who voted for verlander to win the AL cy young over grienke.
