The Sopranos Voted Top Show Of The Decade
Published by MoonDog on November 30, 2009
The HBO series The Sopranos has been voted the top television program of the decade according to Barry Garron of The Hollywood Reporter.
Garron based his rankings each program’s artistic merit and overall contribution to the medium, not on their ratings or profit margins.
“Every decade has its landmark TV shows, and there will or should never be complete agreement on which 10 series belong at the top of the list,” Garron said.
For purposes of this list, a TV show is eligible only if it premiered in or after 1999.
The Sopranos mixed the harsh realities of life in organized crime with the relative serenity of middle-class suburbia as seen through James Gandolfini’s character Tony Soprano.
Coming in second on Garron’s list was The West Wing, which aired from 1999 to 2006. Third on the list was Curb Your Enthusiasm, the longest running show among all of the series’ on Gordon’s top 10 list.
Here’s Garron’s list of the top 10 TV programs of this decade.
1. The Sopranos
2. The West Wing
3. Curb Your Enthusiasm
4. The Shield
5. Damages
6. Mad Men
7. 30 Rock
8. 24
9. Lost
10. Modern Family
