The Autozone Liberty Bowl says Arkansas would be an great choice for the game this year, but an official wouldn’t confirm if the Razorbacks have been invited.
Harold Graeter, the game’s associate executive director, said the bowl committee has a Southeastern Conference team lined up, but is waiting for permission from the league office before announcing it.
Graeter went on to say the Liberty Bowl has been “very interested” in the Razorbacks. He said the bowl committee knows “what an exciting football team they are.”
Arkansas hasn’t made an appearance in the Liberty Bowl since 1987 when the Razorbacks were members of the Southwest Conference.
Coached by Ken Hatfield, Arkansas fell to SEC foe Georgia 20-17 and finished their season 9-4.
The Autozone Liberty Bowl will be played on January 2 and will feature a possible matchup of the Razorbacks against the champions of Conference USA, either East Carolina or Houston.
