Texas, Tebow Or Maybe TCU In BCS Title Game
Published by MoonDog on December 5, 2009
There’s an old country song written by Jimmie Rodgers titled “T For Texas” that’s mostly on target today when the participants for the BCS national championship game are decided.
Top-ranked Florida (12-0) and No. 2 Alabama (12-0) will play a defacto national semifinal game when they play for the SEC Championship in Atlanta. The winner of that game will earn one of the spots in the BCS title game in Pasadena on January 7, 2010.
Second-ranked Texas (12-0) will face No. 21 Nebraska (9-3) in the Big 12 Championship later Saturday in what could determine the other team in the BCS national championship game.
If the Longhorns take care of business against the Cornhuskers they’ll face the Gators or Crimson Tide. If Nebraska pulls the upset, Cincinnati or TCU could wind up in Pasadena.
The fifth-ranked Bearcats (11-0) will face No. 14 Pittsburgh (9-2) at noon to determine the Big East Conference champion. If Cincinnati defeats the Panthers and Texas loses, voters may move them ahead of TCU in the BCS standings, giving the Bearcats a shot at Florida or Alabama.
But if the Panthers defeat Cincinnati and Texas loses, that will open the door for TCU.

Texas Can Earn a Shot at the BCS Title With a Win Over Nebraska
The fourth-ranked Horned Frogs (12-0) have completed their regular season schedule and can only watch as the conference championship games play themselves out.
For all the rumblings that have taken place this year about the BCS, particularly the political intervention from Representative Joe Barton and Senator Orrin Hatch, how ironic would it be for a team from the Mountain West Conference to find itself playing for the BCS national championship?
But just as I predicted in this September 3 post, the Florida Gators and Texas Longhorns will meet in Pasadena for college football’s ultimate prize.
Granted, it wasn’t much of a stretch to pick the Gators and Longhorns, clearly the two best teams in college football this season.
Both teams have similarities the other contenders don’t share, with Florida and Texas each having Heisman Trophy candidates at quarterback.
The Gators and Longhorns also have stout defenses, with Florida ranked No.1 in yards allowed per game at 233.1 while the Longhorns rank fifth at 263.2.
Today’s games will be among the best this college football season has to offer, but it will prove to be mostly anti-climatic as T will be for Texas and the Tebow led Florida Gators.
