Mayo, Young Lead Grizzlies To Beat Down Of Suns

O.J. Mayo had 25 points and rookie Sam Young added a career-high 22 as the Memphis Grizzlies put a 128-103 major beat down on the Phoenix Suns Saturday night.

Memphis dominated every aspect of the game against the Suns, jumping out to and early lead they never relinquished. The Grizzlies shot better than 53% from the field and outrebounded Phoenix 49-38.

The victory evened the Grizzlies record at 16-16 after a 1-8 start. This is the first time Memphis has owned a .500 or better record this late in the season since 2005-06.

The Grizzlies didn’t get their 16th victory last season until March 4, in their 60th game.

Marc Gasol added 19 points for the Grizzlies, Zach Randolph had 18 points and 11 rebounds, Rudy Gay scored 16 points, and rookie Hasheem Thabeet had 10.

Amare Stoudemire led the Suns with 29 points, Steve Nash had 19 points and 13 assists, Lou Amundson had 14 points and Goran Dragic added 13.

The Grizzlies continue their three-game road trip against Portland on January 5. The Blazers are 22-13 and are tied atop the Northwest Division with Denver.
