Mother Forces 11-Year-Old Son To Rob Business

Police said an east Tennessee woman drove the getaway car after talking her 11-year-old son into committing an armed robbery at a finance company where she had worked.

Investigators said 32-year-old Angela Evans has confessed to the robbery of the World Finance office in Athens. Detective Freddy Schultz told the Daily Post-Athenian that Evans had worked at the finance office in the past.

Schultz said the boy admitted to the January 8 robbery and said his mother put him up to it.

The manager of World Finance told police Evans’ getaway car was parked at the other end of the parking lot so it couldn’t be seen from inside the store. The building’s only security cameras are around back.

The next day, Evans and her son got pulled over in a traffic stop. The officer noticed they matched the description of the World Finance robbery suspects.

A clerk told police that a juvenile wearing something over his face placed a gun to her head and demanded all the money from the cash register. The robber took $80 and rode off in a red vehicle.

Investigators said the boy told them he got a $20 share.

Evans was in custody Tuesday. Jail records do not show that she has hired an attorney.
