Senator-elect Scott Brown’s daughter Ayla has been inundated with messages from men after her father’s announcement in his victory speech that she was “available”.
Her father’s unscripted comments took her by surprise. The newly elected Senator made TV viewers cringe on Tuesday when he introduced his two daughters in his victory speech, declaring “yes, they’re both available”.
He quickly corrected himself that Arianna, 19, a pre-med student at Syracuse University whose boyfriend was on stage, was not available, but that Ayla was.
“My jaw dropped,” Ayla said. “I was like, that definitely wasn’t in the script!”
She added: “I definitely had a talk with my Dad.”
Since Tuesday’s victory speech, she’s had to tighten the privacy settings on her Facebook profile after she was flooded with friend requests. “I had 1,568 friend requests and 300 inbox messages – mostly from men,” Brown said. “And I got a whole lot of business cards.”
Ayla, who confirmed that she is single, told the New York Post: “I’m not looking for Brad Pitt. Just someone who treats me well and is respectful to me and my family.”
Brown is in her senior year at Boston College where she’s a forward on the women’s basketball team. The Eagles are currently 11-8 overall and 2-2 in ACC play with Brown averaging 6.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
Mr Brown redeemed himself somewhat with Ayla when President Obama called to congratulate him on his victory on Tuesday night. The new Senator proposed that Mr Obama pick a partner and play a two-on-two basketball game against him and Ayla.
Ayla is no stranger to being in the public eye. She made it to the final 16 of American Idol during the series fifth season. Following her appearance on American Idol, Brown released her first album in 2006 and sold 3,000 copies.
Her second album, Ayla Brown Live, was released in November 2009. Because of the media attention surrounding her father’s victory, she’s moved forward the release date of her third album, Circles, to January 29.
Mr Brown’s remarks provoked a surge in interest in Ayla on the web. “Scott Brown family photos” was eighth most-searched phrase on Google.
A quick search revealed a number of photos mostly featuring Ayla singing and a few taken during games when her Boston College team is in action.
