Brett Favre Committed Ultimate Quarterback Mistake

Dear Brett Favre:
Perhaps you didn’t get the memo in reference to the ultimate mistake, the one thing a quarterback should never do, regardless of how inviting it may appear to be.
That one thing you’ve been taught since the day you put pads on for the first time, the one thing coaches at every level of football across America tell their quarterbacks to never do.
Never throw across your body into the middle of the field!
With the game on the line, just 19 seconds and a field goal away from the Minnesota Vikings making their first Super Bowl appearance since 1976, Favre committed the ultimate mistake.
Throwing across his body into the middle of the field, Favre tried to connect with Sidney Rice to shorten the field goal attempt that would have sent the Vikings to the Super Bowl.
Instead, the Saints Tracy Porter stepped in front of Rice and picked off Favre’s pass to send their NFC Championship game into overtime.
Favre didn’t get an opportunity to redeem himself after New Orleans took possession in overtime and never relinquished the ball, winning the game on a 40-yard field goal by Garrett Hartley.
The Saints will be making their first Super Bowl appearance in franchise history while Favre will spend the offseason pondering retirement again.
That same gunslinger mentality that made Favre a future member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame cost him dearly against New Orleans.
The mistake Favre made was one he’s committed countless times before throughout his career, but one he’s never seemed to learn his lesson from.
Favre will have to think about that mistake and what might have been for the next six months.
If only he’d read the memo.
