ESPN.com columnist Mark Schlabach wrote an interesting article last week with his predictions for what we might see happening in college football during the next decade.
Some of Schlabach’s predictions were bold, most notable of which was Missouri’s jump to the Big Ten Conference. He reasoned that by adding the Tigers, the Big Ten could split into two divisions and play a conference championship game.
Schlabach also envisioned more conference realignments, with the Big 12, Pac-10, Mountain West, Western Athletic, Big East and Conference USA being effected.
Schlabach also predicted that Boise State would play for a BCS national championship and Southern Methodist would become the new BCS buster. The Broncos playing for a BCS title wasn’t much of a stretch but the Mustangs being the new fly in the ointment team is another bold prediction.
Among some of the no-brainers Schlabach listed was his prediction that “several big-name coaches will retire,” like Joe Paterno and Mack Brown.
As if we didn’t already know that.
He also wrote that Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino would change jobs again – another no-brainer – and that the SEC would win at least four more BCS national championships.
The Southeastern Conference will win more than four BCS titles over the next decade – that’s my prediction.
At any rate, Schlabach wrote an entertaining article that college football fans should find enjoyable
