What is it about President Obama that causes those he lauds to lose elections and basketball games?
The Commander-in-Chief has paid visits to three Democratic nominees over the past three months to offer his support in elections taking place in New Jersey, Virginia and Massachusetts.
In each of the three elections, the candidates Mr. Obama supported lost.
After the Kentucky Wildcats were voted No.1 in the polls on Monday, Mr. Obama called coach John Calipari early Tuesday to congratulate the team on their success and to thank them for raising funds to aid the Haiti relief effort.
He cautioned the Wildcats to remain focused and to play with the same passion that helped land Kentucky atop the polls for the first time since 2003.
But later on Tuesday, the Obama jinx wasn’t limited to politicians as the top-ranked Wildcats fell to South Carolina 68-62.
Devan Downey scored 30 points in leading the Gamecocks over Kentucky. It was the Wildcats first loss of the season and will likely cause them to drop out of the top spot in the polls.
Despite his best intentions, it seems the president doesn’t have the Midas touch with politicians or basketball teams.
