Memphis Man Charged In Attempted Murder Of My Friends

Memphis police charged Edward Moore on Tuesday after he shot an employee of American Automotive on February 27, a business owned by Mike Trotter, a personal friend of mine.

While Mike and I aren’t directly related, he is the nephew of my uncle Jimmy Trotter, whom I’m related to by marriage.

On Tuesday, Moore was charged with attempted second-degree murder and numerous other crimes including aggravated assault (5 counts), reckless endangerment, and vandalism over $500 (2 counts).

Moore, 36, went into the American Automotive Center at 1718 Bartlett Road to check on work done on a vehicle and became angry about the work, police said.

Moore started arguing with one employee, police said, and pulled out a handgun.

When the employee turned away, Moore fired five shots, missing that employee, but striking another employee three times, twice in the leg and once in the hand, police said. The victim, 35, was hospitalized in noncritical condition.

As customers and employees tried to take Moore to the floor, he pointed the gun into the face of one employee before being subdued, according to the charges.

Several people inside the shop were in the line of fire, but were not hit, according to police. The shots also went through the front windshield of a 2008 Dodge Ram 3500, and through the door and hood of a 1998 330I BMW that were in the shop.

Moore is being held in Shelby County Jail on a $300,000 bond. He is to appear in court on March 9.
