Eva Mendes, an actress of Cuban decent and one of the most widely searched celebrities on the Internet, celebrates her 36th birthday today.
After beginning her career working in music videos – one of which was for future cast mate Will Smith – Mendes caught the eye of a talent scout who believed she had the right stuff to make it big.
Ever since she got her big break in the 2001 film Training Day, Mendes has been one of the most successful actresses and models working in Hollywood.
Her performance in Training Day led to roles in Stuck on You, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, and as the female lead in the comedy Hitch opposite Will Smith.
Mendes has appeared nude in Flaunt magazine and topless in Italian Vogue magazine. She’s been rather outspoken about censorship of tasteful nudity, pointing out that violence is much more dangerous to younger viewers than flashing a little too much skin.
“I’m completely American, I was born and raised in America and I love it but I think we are too quick to censor nudity. Meanwhile, it’s OK to blow things up and our films are so violent and our television is so violent,” she continued.
“I would rather see tasteful nudity than violence any day of the week.”
