Robert De Niro To Portray Coach Vince Lombardi

The Web site Risky Business posted an article on Tuesday reporting that legendary actor Robert De Niro would play the role of coach Vince Lombardi in an upcoming ESPN film.

Titled “Lombard”, the film is set to be written by Eric Roth who also wrote the screenplay for “Forrest Gump”. The film is being developed by ESPN Films, Andell Entertainment and the NFL.

According to Risky Business, the film will focus on Lombardi’s career with the Green Bay Packers from 1959 to 1967, turning them from a lackluster team into five-time NFL champions and winning the first two Super Bowls.

The producers plan to release the film in late January 2012, during the bye week after the AFC and NFC championship games are played.
