For some reason the Philadelphia Eagles have decided to take leave of their senses and entertain the possibility of trading quarterback Donovan McNabb.
While a majority of Eagles fans have been on board with this absurd idea for the past few years, there are still a few who think McNabb has at least two more seasons left to carry this team into the playoffs.
The McNabb haters say the 11-year veteran has taken a step back in his game and the time has come to move on, giving young quarterback Kevin Kolb an opportunity to take over the Eagles offense.
If this was the case, I would support the move 100 percent. I don’t support the idea because McNabb remains Philadelphia’s best chance of guiding the team into the playoffs in 2010.
How can you trade McNabb after he had a 92.9 quarterback rating in 2009, the third highest in his 11 years in the NFL?
While McNabb didn’t set any career highs last year when he completed 60.3 percent of his passes for 3,553 yards, 22 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, he did show what he could do with a threat at wide receiver.
Fans should expect to see what he can do with another year of experience under the belts of DeSean Jackson, Brent Celek, LeSean McCoy and Jeremy Maclin.
McNabb haters also say he doesn’t have what it takes to win in the playoffs.
In his NFL career, McNabb has led the Eagles to a 9–7 playoff record, including five appearances in the NFC championship game and one Super Bowl.
Peyton Manning, another future Hall of Fame quarterback, has been dogged about his performance in the playoffs. Manning has a career playoff record of 9-9.
McNabb should be strongly considered for the NFL’s Hall of Fame when his career comes to an end. While this discussion is for another time, compare these career numbers.
Jim Kelly - Career Record 101-59, Playoff Record 9-8
Completion Percentage – 60.1%, 35,647 Passing Yards, 237 Touchdowns, 175 Interceptions
Donovan McNabb – Career Record 82-45-1, Playoff Record 9-7
Completion Percentage – 59%, 32,873 Passing Yards, 216 Touchdowns, 100 Interceptions
For those of you that didn’t know it, Kelly is a member of the NFL Hall of Fame.
If the Eagles’ organization is smart, they would trade Michael Vick and focus on improving the team while McNabb is still around. They need a defensive player or two to help make this team one of the best in the NFC.

I basically agree with you. I write many blogs on how silly Eagles fans are, and how ungrateful. BUT – after that last Dallas game the management (with REID) became very pissed at him. He became very passive aggressive and he had the worst attitude for those last two games. People in the know said that had with him and they had to either sign him for another long term contract (no lame duck) or bring in Kobb. I am huge McNabb fan but if Fatty Ried is going to continue to use his offense, maybe a more accurate QB can flurish. We’ll see. Trading him to Washington was dumb but it means they think he is toast. I hope they are right but I see 8-8 this year.
