Keith Olbermann’s GF Katy Tur’s Dad in Hot Water

Way back when MoonDog Sports introduced the sports blogosphere to Katy Tur, Keith Olbermann’s squeeze that’s half his age.

Yesterday I came across an article regarding Tur’s father Bob, who became well-known following his use of a helicopter to report on the O.J. Simpson car chase in 1994.

Bob Tur, who sued YouTube in 2006 over a copyright complaint, has been accused by Google’s attorneys of making court documents public that related to depositions of YouTube and Google executives involved in a legal dispute with Viacom pertaining to pirated material.

Attorney Andrew Schapiro who represents Google claims Tur leaked the documents to CNET’s Greg Sandoval.

Schapiro got a court order to examine Tur’s phone and e-mail records, but by the time his computer was turned over to a forensics team, the computer’s hard drive had been wiped clean.

Tur claimed the system cleaning wasn’t performed to destroy potentially incriminating evidence, but rather was a routine maintenance function so that the computer could be given to his daughter Katy.

If Tur is indeed responsible for leaking the court documents, it would be a violation of the protective order that he was under as part of the pending class action suit.

Olbermann isn’t involved in any of the legal issues involving his girlfriend’s father, but for someone who has become such a polarizing figure in America and whose ratings for his TV show Countdown With Keith Olbermann have plummeted over the past 18 months, this certainly can’t be good news.

Regardless if Olbermann is involved or not, his association with Katy Tur and the accusations against her father don’t further his cause.

Amid rumors that some of MSNBCs on-air personalities may get the axe once Comcast takes over on September 1, Olbermann may be well served to distance himself from Tur until the legal issues are resolved.
