The Miami Dolphins Made a Mistake Trading For Brandon Marshall

When the news first broke about the Miami Dolphins completing a trade with the Denver Broncos for wide receiver Brandon Marshall, my Dolphin fan side was thrilled.

But giving it some time to sink in, I’ve changed my tune. Now I believe the Dolphins made a mistake and gave up too much for Marshall.

Don’t get me wrong, Marshall is an accomplished wide receiver and has the potential to be one of the best in the game.

After spending three years in the NFL, Marshall has 327 receptions for 4,019 yards, 25 touchdowns and 205 first downs. There is no reason to expect similar success with quarterback Chad Henne throwing to him.

Even with these solid statistics, why I am still bothered the Dolphins traded for him?

For starters, I think the Dolphins gave up too much for Marshall. Early round draft picks are gold for successful NFL teams. Miami could have used the second round draft pick this year to pick up a wide receiver.

Miami Dolphins Chad HenneThe biggest concern I have with Marshall is the diva status that he’s already exhibited in his short time in the league. The extreme diva, Terrell Owens, didn’t show his true colors until later in his career.

Despite his play on the field, Marshall’s off the field problems have shown that he can’t handle success. On top of that, Marshall has been involved in a handful of domestic violence incidents along with other altercations.

This is not the track record I would want for one of the highest paid wide receivers in the NFL.

I would have rather seen Miami make the trade for Anquan Boldin, who came with a cheaper price tag and a lower draft selection. Despite what some NFL experts think, Boldin has the ability to be the number one receiver in the right offense.

Hopefully for the sake of the Dolphins and their faithful fans, Marshall is going to walk the straight and narrow, stay out of South Beach and away from law enforcement. If he can do this, Marshall has the chance to go down as one of the best wide receivers off all time.

But I don’t see that happening.

It wasn’t until recent that I found out about this . But the incident that led to the death of Marshall’s former teammate Darrent Williams in Denver had as such been instigated by Marshall. But unfortunately for Williams he ended up being on the wrong end of a bullet that as such might not have been meant for him at all. Although it had been mentioned that he and the assailant had gotten into an earlier incident that also involved Marshall. Coincidence ?
