AskMen released their second annual Top 29 Cities to Live in today, with New York City topping the global list.
Based upon a variety of international sources and insider experience from AskMen contributors from around the world, the Top 29 provides a current snapshot of the best cities for men, with New York, Melbourne and Tokyo rounding out the top three.
AskMen’s formula ranked the best cities for men to live, work and socialize in, based on data like the quality of green spaces, guaranteed vacation days, unemployment rate, culinary scene and ratio of single, educated women.
Unfortunately, it would appear that no one actually bothered to visit some of the cities AskMen ranks among their top 29.
Having been in more than half the cities on the list during my time in the military, I’m having a hard time understanding how Beirut, Cape Town, Bogota, Sao Paulo and Istanbul made the cut.
Beirut is one of the few cities on Earth where your chances of being shot are better than 50 percent. I know this because I was shot at.
Trust me, you don’t want to live in Beirut.
Tokyo is so crowded and has so many space restrictions that anyone over 5’6″ has to spend their lives bending at the waist. And the chances of being killed as a result of an earthquake are better than one in three.
New York and San Francisco are great cities, but there’s several problems with both. The states of New York and California are broke and in debt up to their eyebrows. Oh, and the tax rates are exorbitant too, like nearly 50 percent.
Las Vegas is another great city on AskMen’s list, but have you seen the unemployment rate in Nevada? It’s the second-highest in the U.S.
Paris isn’t bad if you like $9 cheeseburgers and streets that smell like urine.
I could go on but…
