Target Field has done wonders for the Twins attendance figures, helping Minnesota draw more than 9,000 fans per game than last season.
Minnesota is averaging 38,569 fans through nine home games, good for sixth best among all MLB teams.
The Twins are in rare company usually reserved for baseball’s most successful franchises. Last season Minnesota drew over 2.4 million fans to the Metrodome, good for 14th among the 30 MLB clubs.
This season Minnesota is on pace to draw over 3 million fans, an attendance figure that only a few MLB franchises consistently achieve each year.
The Los Angeles Dodgers currently lead all clubs in attendance, averaging 46,427 through seven home games. The Philadelphia Phillies are second, drawing 45,056 through six home games.
The New York Yankees are third so far this season, with an average of 44,602 fans through six home games. The Los Angeles Angels and St. Louis Cardinals round out the top five.
Perhaps the most disappointing attendance figures so far this season has been the New York Mets.
Through 15 home games, the Mets have drawn an average of 31,246 fans to Citi Field, 11th best among all MLB clubs.
In 2009, the Mets drew 3.15 million fans to Citi Field, 7th among all MLB teams. At this season’s current pace, New York would draw 2.53 million fans – their lowest attendance since 2003.
