Memphis Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph issued a statement late Thursday regarding the allegations against him arising from an Indianapolis drug bust on Wednesday.
Randolph stressed that he is not currently under investigation and that the reports of his alleged drug dealing are inaccurate.
“I am committed to my family, my career, the NBA and the Grizzlies. Although I had a rough start, I’ve learned valuable lessons from all of my mistakes and I can assure my family, the Grizzlies and the city of Indianapolis I was not involved in any of the allegations.
There were no controlled substances found in my locker. The reports that have surfaced are inaccurate.
I have been very intentional in distancing myself from anything that would jeopardize my personal and professional relationships.
IMPD (Indianapolis Metro Police Department) made an official statement around 6 p.m. Eastern Standard Time this evening stating that I am not a suspect in any current narcotics investigation.
It is so unsettling to work so hard at rebuilding the trust of the Grizzlies organization, my teammates and my family only to have my image tarnished by someone else’s questionable behavior.
I would like to thank my family, the Grizzlies, and the city of Memphis for their continued support.”
The Memphis Grizzlies released a press statement late Wednesday offering their support of Randolph.
“Since Zach Randolph joined this organization, he has been an active member of the Memphis community and embraced our core values of hard work and leadership.
These qualities helped him develop into an NBA All-Star this season and guided one of the NBA’s youngest teams to a 16-game improvement.
Zach’s continued commitment to the team has been evident the last couple of weeks as he’s been working out with members of our staff on the west coast.
Due to the ongoing police investigation, we do not feel it would be appropriate to comment further. Unless some other information surfaces, Zach remains a valued member of the Grizzlies family and Memphis community.”
