When Mexican President Felipe Calderon spoke before members of the U.S. Congress recently, he criticized Arizona’s immigration enforcement law, much to the glee of half-witted Democrats in attendance.
But the realities are Mexico’s laws and treatment of illegal immigrants is far more harsh than anything the state of Arizona – or the U.S. – can dish out.
According to a report in USA Today, “Mexico has a law that is no different from Arizona’s that empowers local police to check the immigration documents of people suspected of not being in the country legally.”
Mexicans account for the overwhelming majority of illegal immigrants in the United States.
But in Mexico, illegal immigrants like Hector Vazquez receive terrible treatment from corrupt Mexican authorities.
“There (in the United States), they’ll deport you,” said Vazquez, an illegal immigrant from Honduras. “In Mexico they’ll probably let you go, but they’ll beat you up and steal everything you’ve got first.”
With many in the U.S. criticizing Arizona’s right to enact laws – up to and including the Obama administration – perhaps the naysayers should read the USA Today report.
After doing so, if you still want to believe the state of Arizona has joined the dark side of the force, then Mexico must be Darth Vader.
