Bud Selig Still Waffling on Instant Replay

Bryan Burwell of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch wrote an excellent article earlier this week regarding MLB Commissioner Bud Selig, citing his non-existent decision making abilities.

Meeting with reporters at the MLB Draft on Monday, Selig remained clueless why instant replay would benefit the game.

Burwell wrote,

“Almost a week after Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga lost a perfect game on an umpire error that could have easily been corrected by instant replay, baseball’s commissioner still can’t figure out why his game would be better served by the use of TV replays. While talking to reporters on Monday during the first round of the MLB draft, Selig did what he always does when faced with a tough decision that could actually improve his sport.”

“He waffled.”

As I wrote last week, Selig lacked the courage to make the right decision on the Galarraga situation.

It’s becoming apparent that he’ll lack the courage to address the need for expanded use of instant replay too.

Burwell pointed out Selig’s cartel of “baseball people” that haven’t exactly served him well since he took over as commissioner.

“He (Selig) says he hasn’t heard from any baseball people who are for instant replay. Perhaps that’s because he is only talking to his usual coterie of yes men who always confirm exactly what he wants to hear.”

I don’t believe Selig wants to hear anything other than the voices in his head.

He especially doesn’t want to hear the growing number of fans who are in favor of expanding instant replay.
