2010 World Series of Poker: Big Names Continue to Dominate

You’ll see a lot of action at the casinos in Las Vegas this summer because poker tournaments are being played with the 2010 World Series of Poker at stake.
If you like a game of Texas Hold’em or have a few dollars to spare for a buy-in, you can play Texas Hold’em Poker online or you should take a trip to Las Vegas.
Before you do, however, note that this is the year where the established poker player reigns supreme.
Hyper aggression, online poker strategy, large tournament fields and an abundance of poker articles has meant that the variance in these large fields is massive.
Andy Bloch, having played in many events every year, is yet to win a bracelet despite his poker playing pedigree.
But this year established professionals have risen to the challenge from young online poker players, stamping their authority back on the game with a series of high profile wins.
The $2,000 Limit Hold”em event was won by 2009 November nine player Eric Buchman, who won a prize of $203,607 along with his first bracelet.
Buchman was almost joined at the final table by another November nine player from 2009, Jeff Schulman, who finished in 13th place for a prize of $9,902. Buchman was my tip to win the WSOP Main Event in 2009 before Joe Cada took the prize.
I expect Buchman to be a multi-bracelet winning player who’s a threat in any tournament he plays in. Other notables going deep in this event include Shannon Shorr, who finished in 17th place winning $7,805, and Joe Serock, who finished 28th, taking home a cash prize of $5,033.
The $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha event was won by Jon “Tex” Barch, earning his first WSOP bracelet and a cash prize of $256,919. When Joe Hachem won the 2005 WSOP Main Event for $7.5 million, Barch finished third for a prize of $2.5 million.
British Poker has been given yet another boost at this WSOP with Richard Ashby winning the Seven Card Stud bracelet and $140,467 cash. Known more for his cash game prowess, Ashby is undoubtedly an excellent player who more than deserves this WSOP bracelet.
Ashby beat out top players Sorel Mizzi, who finished in 6th place winning $22,235, and Jon “Pearljammer” Turner, who finished in 8th place winning $12,916.
The Limit Hold’em 6-Max event was won by Dutch Boyd, earning his second WSOP bracelet and a cash prize of $234,065.
The 2010 World Series of Poker continues to prove that poker professionals are known world-wide because of their skill and not because they know how to market themselves.
