I was watching Red Eye the other night and one of the guests mentioned that a recent survey revealed that 26% of Americans don’t know who the U.S. gained its independence from.
For those of you who may not know the answer, it’s the British. The U.S. declared independence in 1776 and would fight the English for another 13 years before finally defeating them – along with the help of France – in 1789 at Yorktown.
Independence Day is one of my favorite holidays. This day embodies everything that is America.
You can’t have a proper 4th of July without fireworks, and this video taken at Disneyland in 2007 is one of the best fireworks displays I’ve seen.
