College Football Stadiums by Capacity

The University of Michigan made a lot of changes to Michigan Stadium, most notably adding 2,000 seats to become the largest stadium in college football with a seating capacity of 109,901.

As part of a $226 million renovation, the university added luxury boxes and club seats along both sidelines.

But the additional seats were the most important aspect of the renovation because the Big House can reclaim the distinction from Penn State of having the largest college football stadium in the country.

Beaver Stadium, home of the Nittany Lions, has a seating capacity of 107,282 and was for a short time the largest college football stadium in America.

Neyland Stadium, at one time the second largest college football stadium in the nation, has undergone several renovation projects as well. But those renovations have reduced seating capacity from a high of 104,079 in 2000 to its current capacity of 102,459.

The Alabama Crimson Tide and Texas Longhorns will also play home games in front of more fans this season after those universities had recent renovations made to their respective stadiums.

Bryant-Denny Stadium is now the fifth largest college football stadium in the nation with a seating capacity of 101,000 while Royal Memorial Stadium renovation projects over the past five years have created a seating capacity of 100,119.

Heading into the 2010 college football season, these are the top 10 stadiums with the largest seating capacities.
