Former Florida Gators football player Maurkice Pouncey is the subject of an NCAA investigation regarding an allegation that he received $100,000 from a representative of a sports agent before last season ended.
ESPN.com reported that an anonymous letter accused Pouncey of receiving the money between Florida’s loss to Alabama in the SEC football championship on December 5 and its Allstate Sugar Bowl win over Cincinnati on January 1.
The letter containing the allegations was postmarked in Canada. According to ESPN.com, the letter was accompanied by photos of Maurkice Pouncey and his brother Mike, who is entering his senior season with the Gators.
Mike Pouncey was named to the Preseason All-SEC Coaches Team on Tuesday. The photos show what is believed to be a runner for an agent at social gatherings with the Pouncey brothers, including two awards shows.
Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley said in a statement on Monday that the university was aware in early June of the possibility that Pouncey was improperly contacted by a sports agent or his representative.
