Longhorns, Buckeyes Lead Early Football Recruiting

The Texas Longhorns and Ohio State Buckeyes have the early lead in the quest to land the nation’s best high school football players.

The Longhorns are at the top of Scout’s college football team recruiting rankings based on the strength of the commitments they’ve received from some of the country’s elite prep prospects.

Texas has verbal commitments from 11 of Scout’s top 100 prep football players, including the top two offensive guard prospects in the nation.

Christian Westerman is Scout’s top rated offensive guard prospect while Sedrick Flowers is No. 2.

The tandem head a strong class of offensive lineman for the Longhorns who have also received a commitment from Garrett Greenlea, Scout’s No. 3 offensive tackle.

Texas has recruited well on the defensive side of the ball as well with commitments from Josh Turner and Quandre Diggs, two of the top five cornerbacks according to Scout.

The Longhorns have received commitments from the nation’s No. 2 safety, Sheroid Evans and Desmond Jackson, Scout’s No. 2 defensive tackle prospect.

Ohio State is second on Scout’s college football team recruiting rankings, with verbal commitments from five the the nation’s top 100 prospects.

The Buckeyes got huge commitments from Braxton Miller, the nation’s top rated quarterback prospect and Brian Bobek, Scout’s top rated center.

Ohio State has also received commitments from two of the nation’s best defensive lineman.

Steve Miller, the No. 4 defensive end and Michael Bennett, the No. 5 defensive tackle have announced their intentions to play college football for the Buckeyes.

Texas’ rival Oklahoma is currently third on Scout’s college football team recruiting rankings with commitments from two of the nation’s top 100 prospects.

Leading the list of commitments for the Sooners is wide receiver Trey Metoyer and running back Brandon Williams.

Stanford is fourth on Scout’s team recruiting rankings with a commitment from one of the nation’s top 100 prospects.

Alabama rounds out the top five on Scout’s list with two commitments from the top 100 prospects.

The Big 12 leads all conferences with a total of 15 commitments from Scout’s top 100 while the SEC is second with 11.

Pac-10, Big Ten and ACC schools have each received seven commitments from Scout’s top 100.
