University of Memphis Athletics Director R.C. Johnson has denied reports that the Big East Conference will announce the addition of the Tigers on Tuesday.
Rumors about Memphis joining the Big East began when Kentucky Sports Radio’s Matt Jones told his audience that a “usually reliable source tells me Memphis will join the Big East on Tuesday.”
But late Monday Johnson said he has not heard a word from the Big East and does not expect to anytime in the near future.
Johnson has never been hesitant about the Tigers interest in joining a BCS conference, but as of now it remains a goal.
