I wanted to offer my congratulations to Kevin Key for becoming the newly elected Shelby County Criminal Court Clerk after defeating Minerva Johnican in Thursday’s election.
I’ve known Kevin and his family since my early youth. As a kid I helped put campaign signs up for his father Bill when he ran for State Representative in the mid 1970′s.
Knowing the qualities Kevin would bring to the position, I proudly voted for him. The people of Shelby County will come to discover the best man for the job won this election.
Despite the fact he’s weird, looks funny, smells bad and threw a terrible pass to me when we played Briarcrest in the 1979 season opener that could have won the game, I couldn’t be more happy for him.
Kevin is part of the new breed of elected officials. He gets it. His honest, common sense approach is exactly what Shelby County needs and his victory is a peek into the future when national elections take place in November.
