A Hungarian teenage girl backed out of a deal in which she intended to sell her virginity after the winning bidder asked her to marry him, the Croatiantimes.com reported Tuesday.
The 17-year-old schoolgirl, known only by the name “Miss Spring”, decided to take part in the auction in an attempt to stop her mother’s home from being repossessed.
The teenage girl, who lives in northern Hungary with her mother, said she has never had a boyfriend, but was looking for a “savior,” not a husband.
A British businessman had bid $158,000 to purchase the girl’s virginity, but once he discovered why she was making herself available, asked for the girl’s hand in marriage.
The sale was closed down by online auction site eBay, but will be relaunched by a Hungarian television station this week.
“I am just a girl who wants to have a better future, who wants to take care of her family,” she said.
“I think it’s actually quite romantic because the man who pays me this money will be helping to save my family.”
