Speaking for the entire state of Tennessee, we’d like to send our heartfelt condolences to Lane Kiffin and the Southern California Trojans.
Tennessee Vols fans are very sorry that Washington kicked a last second field goal to defeat USC 32-31 on Saturday night giving the Trojans their first loss of the season.
When he bolted Tennessee to accept the USC job after Pete Carroll left to achieve his life-long dream of coaching the Seattle Seahawks avoid the imminent sanctions that were going to be handed down by the NCAA, Kiffin gleefully took over at the school he wanted to be at more than any other.
Since everyone at USC was so forthright in handling the Reggie Bush scandal that resulted in the Trojans being placed on probation, those of us in the great state of Tennessee only wished Kiffin the very best in his new endeavor.
When Erik Folk nailed the 32-yard field goal to give the Huskies their second straight upset victory over the Fightin’ Kiffins, a tear began to roll down my cheek.
The look of dejection on Kiffin’s face following the game-winning field goal was enough to make me ball up in a corner and empty a bottle of Prozac.
Yes, we Tennessee Vols fans have a lot of empathy for Lane Kiffin and the entire USC Trojans football program.
And if you don’t believe me, well…you’d be right.
