Fire Joe Morgan Becomes a Reality

Nearly two years to the day when the Web site Fire Joe Morgan posted their last blog, ESPN announced on Monday that Joe Morgan will not be back next season.

Fire Joe Morgan began in April 2005 as a site that was in some respects a portent to Awful Announcing, bringing attention to the horrendous analyses of color commentators during telecasts of sporting events.

After 21 years of broadcasting Sunday Night Baseball together, ESPN decided to break up the announcing team of Jon Miller and Joe Morgan.

Morgan is out after ESPN didn’t renew his contract and Miller has an offer to remain as the radio voice of the Sunday night games.

“We’ve decided to make a change and introduce new voices and new perspective,” said Norby Williamson, an executive vice president at ESPN.

“Twenty one years is an eternity in this business. And today is about acknowledging the contributions they made to the franchise.”

Fire Joe Morgan founders Michael Schur (Ken Tremendous), Alan Yang (Junior) and Dave King finally got their wish, although it was two years too late.
