High School Football Player Kicked Off Team For Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness

A high school football player in Mississippi was kicked off the team for wearing pink cleats to practice hoping to bring attention to breast cancer awareness.

Attorneys for Mendenhall High School football player Coy Sheppard have sued the school district over the action. Sheppard filed suit last week in Simpson County Chancery Court.

The lawsuit asks the court to reinstate Sheppard to the football team and clear his disciplinary record.

But Mendenhall Deputy Superintendent Tom Duncan told The Clarion-Ledger newspaper that the problem wasn’t the color of Sheppard’s shoes.

He says Sheppard was kicked off the team for ignoring the orders of his coach and assistant coaches to take off the shoes.

The suit also asks for any monetary damages to be awarded to the American Cancer Society.

Update

Late Thursday The Simpson County School Board reinstated Coy Sheppard to the Mendenhall High School football team after he agreed to drop his lawsuit against the school system.
