Memphis Grizzlies player Hamed Haddadi and his girlfriend Goolnaz Karbalaeinematmoeeny were arrested on Thursday following an argument about a sex position.
Haddadi, along with his girlfriend Karbalaeinematmoeeny, were taken into custody after Memphis police determined the two should be charged with domestic assault.
Police say Karbalaeinematmoeeny was “extremely intoxicated” and bleeding when they arrived at the scene. She told officers that Haddadi attacked her just prior to the two having sex.
The argument began when Haddadi asked Karbalaeinematmoeeny about a man he’d seen her talking to earlier.
Officers went to a separate apartment to talk to Haddadi. Police noticed that he was bleeding heavily from the right hand and had several scratches on the right side of his face.
Haddadi says Karbalaeinematmoeeny fell out of bed before the two had sex, ran into the bathroom, grabbed a soap dispenser and tried to throw it at him.
The Memphis Grizzlies issued a brief statement on Thursday regarding the incident.
“We are aware of the situation involving Hamed Haddadi. We will have no further comment until the legal process has been carried out.”
The Grizzlies will face the Golden State Warriors on Friday night at the FedEx Forum.
