SEC Has Most Bowl Eligible Teams

The SEC has the most bowl eligible teams of any FBS conference, with 10 teams having at least the required six wins to play in a bowl game.

Auburn, LSU, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and Kentucky will receive bowl invitations.

If Auburn can knock off South Carolina in the SEC championship next week, the Tigers will play for the BCS national championship.

The ACC has nine bowl eligible teams followed by the Big Ten and Big 12 with eight. The Big East, Conference USA and the Mid-American Conference each have six bowl eligible teams.

The Mountain West has five teams that are bowl eligible, while the WAC currently has four teams with the possibility of Louisiana Tech becoming the fifth team from that conference to reach six wins.

The Pac-10 currently has three teams that have the required six wins and the possibility of adding two more depending on the outcomes of the Oregon-Oregon State and Washington-Washington State games on December 5.

The Sun Belt Conference currently has two bowl eligible teams with Middle Tennessee having a chance to earn their sixth win next week.

Three independents – Army, Navy and Notre Dame – are all bowl eligible.

In total, 70 teams have earned the required number of six wins to gain bowl eligibility, meaning the 35 college football bowl games that will be played have enough teams to work with.
