University of Memphis Worst College Football Team in America

It’s no secret the University of Memphis football team endured one of the worst seasons in school history, losing nine straight games to finish 1-11.

But to add insult to injury, ESPN columnist Mark Schlabach named the Tigers the worst team in college football.

Schlabach ranked the Tigers ahead of San Jose State and New Mexico, the other teams in the Football Bowl Subdivision who also finished their seasons at 1-11.

Among the 120 teams in the FBS, Memphis ranked 117th nationally in total offense and 114th in total defense. The Tigers lost their 11 games by an average of four touchdowns.

Also earning the dubious distinction as some of college football’s worst teams were Buffalo, Eastern Michigan, New Mexico State, Western Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Bowling Green.
