Realizing my SEC brethren will call me a traitor, tonight’s BCS national championship between Oregon and Auburn will be won by the team with the retina burning uniforms.
That’s right, the Quack Attack will be too much for the Plainsmen to handle.
For the first time since the BCS was implemented in 1998, a team representing the SEC in the title game will go down in flames.
Mind you, I still want Auburn to win the game. Considering how many times the Tigers came back from double-digit deficits to win games this season, perhaps I should put my faith in the War Eagle.
But I’ve never been guilty of being a homer, and I’m not going to side with Auburn just because I want them to win. The Tigers are a really good football team, they’re just not good enough to beat the Ducks.
I’ve watched Oregon play a lot of football this season and I’m convinced no one can stop their offense. Auburn may be one of the better defenses that Oregon has faced all season, but they’re not strong enough to prevent Oregon from scoring lots of points.
This isn’t knee jerk reaction either. Weeks ago I Tweeted that Oregon would go all the way, and in January 2010 I wrote this article about my belief that a team outside of the SEC could very well win the BCS national championship in 2011.
Oregon was the first team I listed as a possible contender, and contenders they are. Within that same article I wrote that Auburn would be much improved, and it’s obvious they improved a lot.
Am I psychic? No, but I do know a thing or two about college football and while it pains me to admit it, Oregon will beat Auburn to win the BCS national championship.
I won’t gloat if I’m right and I won’t mind being called out if I’m wrong, but I’m going to be right.
