Selig Says No Changes To Instant Replay This Season

Bud Selig has ruled out the possibility of expanding the playoffs or the use of instant replay this season, saying there wasn’t enough time to make revisions.

The commissioner of Major League Baseball said it’s too soon to make any changes to the league’s postseason format, specifically as it regards the number of teams making the playoffs.

MLB’s season concluded on November 1, 2010 when the Giants defeated the Rangers to win the World Series. The 2011 season is set to begin on March 31.

Yet Selig suggests that five months isn’t enough time to implement changes to the league’s use of instant replay.

The NFL, NBA, college football and college basketball have all made revisions to their playoff formats and use of instant replay during their offseasons, but Selig will have us believe MLB can’t address those issues because of time constraints.

It’s another glaring example of Selig’s non-existent leadership and overall lack of accountability that he’s exhibited throughout his tenure as commissioner.

While I could accept the fact MLB’s playoff format could take longer to address, Selig’s assertion that there wasn’t enough time to expand the use of instant replay is absurd.

Frankly, fans of the game should be offended that Selig has insulted our intelligence once again.
