Let’s Do The Vagina Dance!

An Illinois teacher’s unique lesson plan designed to help students understand the vagina has come under fire from a religious group.

The Illinois Family Institute posted an article on its web site claiming that teacher Jacqulyn Levin had gone too far, using “The Vagina Dance” to inform students how female reproductive organs work.

The article states “The Vagina Dance” was set to the tune of the Hokey Pokey and involved pointing to and singing about female reproductive organs.

Robert King was particularly upset because his son had asked to be excused from participating in the dance but was denied.

“I am not a prudish person and I have no problem with scholastically based sex education,” King said.

“But the teacher used such a cavalier presentation method, and forced a student to participate when he requested to abstain from it. It is disrespectful to women and removes modesty about the reproductive parts.”

It would have been nice to have “The Vagina Dance” when I was in high school.

Instead of the dry, book-based presentation that was used while all of us sat in our chairs snickering, we may have actually learned something if a more engaging method were used.

I can’t understand why any young man interested in girls wouldn’t have eagerly wanted to participate in a scholastic process that taught him things he’ll need to know in the not too distant future.

And with women constantly complaining about men not knowing how their bodies work and how best to push the right buttons, it seems counterproductive not to join in on all the fun.
