The NFL season concluded by setting another benchmark as Super Bowl XLV reached a total of 162.9 million viewers, making it the most-watched television event in U.S. history.
According to Nielsen, the Green Bay Packers 31-25 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers broke the previous record of 153.4 million total viewers set last year when the New Orleans Saints defeated the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV.
The ratings marks the fourth consecutive year in which a Super Bowl set a record for total viewers. Super Bowl telecasts have accounted for the 20 most-watched television events in U.S. history.
In addition, a record average of 111 million viewers watched Super Bowl XLV, topping the previous mark of 106.5 million for Super Bowl XLIV.
