Tennessee Lawmaker Is a Former Hooters Girl

Newly elected Tennessee State Representative Julia Hurley attributes her business and political success to her time working as a Hooters girl.

Hurley, who represents the Lenoir City district, is a Republican who defeated incumbent Democrat Dennis Ferguson in November.

She wrote a two-page article that appeared in Hooters magazine that succeeding as a Hooters girl taught her how to overcome difficult circumstances, like when her first business failed.

In Hurley’s words: “If I could make it at Hooters, I could make it anywhere.”

Hurley writes in the article that her experience at Hooters helped prepare her for a run for public office, even when her opponents tried to make a campaign issue out of her past employment.
