Ron Tillery of The Commercial Appeal is reporting that the Memphis Grizzlies could be close to completing a deal to extend Zach Randolph’s contract.
According to Tillery, Memphis general manager Chris Wallace and Randolph’s agent Raymond Brothers have had productive discussions over the past week.
Wallace and Brothers confirmed that they are moving closer to a four-year contract extension that would keep Randolph in a Grizzlies uniform.
“I think they’re serious,” Brothers said of the Grizzlies’ intent to sign Randolph. “I’m optimistic we’ll get something done.”
Wallace echoed Brothers’ optimism, saying, “I’m very confident we’ll get something done.”
Randolph can become a free agent at the end of this season if he doesn’t reach an agreement with Memphis.
The 10-year veteran has had two stellar seasons since the Grizzlies acquired him in a trade prior to the 2009-10 season.
Randolph is averaging 20.1 points and 12.6 rebounds per game this season and is fourth in the NBA with 48 double-doubles.
