Memphis Native Michael Oher Takes Issue With Todd McShay

Memphis native Micheal Oher has a problem with ESPN NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay and his use of the phrase “character issues” in describing college draft prospects.

In an article at Yahoo! Sports on Tuesday, Oher, the subject of the film “The Blind Side,” was outspoken in his criticism of McShay after the ESPN NFL Draft analyst suggested he had character issues before the 2009 draft.

McShay downgraded the former Briarcrest High School and Ole Miss Rebel player, saying he had unspecified character issues. Despite the knock against Oher, he was drafted in the first round by the Baltimore Ravens.

Nut during last week’s NFL Draft, Oher took to his Twitter account to blast McShay.

“What is Character issues?!?,” Oher wrote on his Twitter account. “Somebody tell me? I never got in trouble with the Law … yes sir no sir guy … But this Todd Mcshay (sic) guy acts if he knows ppl on a personal level get real! What if someone was to talk about your son … and he had character issues!!”

Oher continued his rant against McShay, posting, “Thats (sic) how my family felt. You need to meet ppl first and then judge them not go off what you hear!! …@McShay13 tell me what are character issues because I dont (sic) know… you said I had them and you never met me?! And I respect Mel Kiper way more then I respect you…your (sic) a joke!!”

Considering what many NFL draft analysts have to say about every player, situations like this could become more frequent.

As of now McShay hasn’t responded to Oher, and it’s doubtful he will via Twitter. Perhaps he’ll attempt to reach out to him in a private conversation.
