Matthew Barnaby is the latest among ESPN analysts that have publicly disgraced themselves and the network after being arrested on domestic violence charges on Friday.
Barnaby was arrested Friday night following a domestic incident that involved two victims, according to authorities. He was released from jail on his own recognizance.
The former Buffalo Sabres enforcer was charged with criminal mischief, criminal trespass, harassment, criminal contempt and aggravated harassment for an incident that occurred just after 6 p.m. in the town of Getzville.
A police lieutenant in Amherst told WGR-AM that no physical violence was involved. Barnaby was held in jail overnight before being arraigned Saturday morning.
At his arraignment in Amherst Town Court, Barnaby pleaded not guilty to all five charges.
“Mr. Barnaby, it goes without question that you [must] completely stay away from anyone involved in this matter,” Amherst Town Justice Mark G. Farrell told Barnaby, according to the Buffalo News.
Barnaby was chosen by the Sabres in the fourth round of the 1992 draft, and played for Buffalo from 1993-99.
Suffice it to say, Barnaby will be lucky if he keeps his job with ESPN. In all likelihood, he’ll end up unemployed and join the ranks of Steve Phillips, Sean Salisbury and Harold Reynolds as former ESPN analysts.
