The aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) is believed to be the ship that will host a Veteran’s Day basketball game between North Carolina and Michigan State.
The Vinson has become famous for being the ship that buried Osama bin Laden at sea after U.S. Navy SEALs killed him during a raid on his compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.
Commissioned in March 1982, the USS Carl Vinson is a Nimitz class aircraft carrier based at NAS North Island San Diego.
With a complement of 6,000, the USS Carl Vinson can accommodate a total of 90 aircraft and helicopters.
The ship can reach speeds of more than 30 knots and uses two nuclear power plants to produce the steam needed to turn its four screws.
While specific details have yet to be worked out, the game between the Tar Heels and Spartans will be televised by ESPN. The majority of those attending are expected to be officers and crew of the Vinson.
